Diaz Point — Guide

Diaz Point Lighthouse near Lüderitz

Diaz Point, Lüderitz

Diaz Point marks the windswept promontory where Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias (often spelled “Diaz”) erected a stone cross in 1488. Today, visitors come for the dramatic Atlantic views, a charming lighthouse, resident seals and sea birds, and the raw coastline carved by relentless Southern Ocean swells. The area sits just outside Lüderitz, making it an easy half-day outing: drive along the coastal road, stop for photos on the boardwalks, and watch the fog roll in as the light changes across the granite outcrops and turquoise water.
